At our school we believe in the use of School pets to support pupils with empathy, responsibility and compassion. We are very lucky to have our very own School Dog called ‘Luna the Lowca Labrador’!

She joined the school team at just 8 weeks old, although she wasn’t able to come into school until she was 12 weeks old. She just loves being part of the Lowca School Family and spending time with the children. She is undergoing training to be a Pets as Therapy Dog and a School Reading Dog with the Kennel Club Bark and Read Scheme, so she comes in to school to practice.

So far, she has made a positive impact on pupil wellbeing, belonging, reading development, calmness in the classroom and attendance. The pupils voted to spend time with Luna as one of their House Point rewards, and on Thursdays she visits school to work with our SEND pupils and those on our reading intervention program.
